Knights on Podium for 15K Freestyle at USCSA Nationals

Lake Placid, NY – Matthew Clarner's fourth-place finish in the 15K Freestyle helped the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team onto the podium for the first time this week, as the Golden Knights' men placed second in the event at the USCSA National Championships, held at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

The Golden Knights' men took second out of 11 teams with 31 points, just four shy of the top spot, while Clarkson's women ended up in 12th out of 14 squads. The USCSA Nationals will conclude on Saturday when the team's compete in the Classic Team Sprint.

Clarner ended up in fourth place in the field of 79 skiers, finishing with a time of 37:24.2, crossing the finish line 22.66 seconds after the top performer in the race. Torsten Brickley was next for the Knights, ending up in 11th place in 38:39.8, about 90 seconds after the first-place skier, and Adam Jansen rounded out Clarkson's team score by coming in 19th place in 39:43.9.

Outside of the team scoring, Silas Bartol came in 28th place in the field in 40:24.8 while Nathaniel Burke was also in the top half of the field by coming in 39th in 42:38.3. Braydon Patch also placed 58th in 46:54.1. Oliver Dolcino did not start for the Knights.

On the women's side, Skylar Francis was the top performer for the Knights, taking the 29th spot among 73 total skiers, and finishing with a time of 53:46.0. Janneke Baks was 61st in 1:15:40.7 and Clare Janas came in 62nd in 1:19:09.0 to round out Clarkson's team score.
