Wilmington, NY – Senior Hannah Goetz and freshman Gavin Ebert posted the top times for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team, as the Golden Knights and the rest of the field suffered through a frigid day atop Whiteface Mountain on day one of the Clarkson Carnival.

The Golden Knights' men finished second out of eight MacConnell Division teams while the Clarkson women placed fourth out of eight squads. Slightly warmer temperatures should present themselves on Sunday when the group resumes the event.

For the men, Gavin Ebert ended up in 27th place overall among 108 total skiers in the FIS race, finishing with a time of 1:27.66 in the slalom. His first run was just 43.35, which was good enough for 15th at the midway point, but his second time didn't quite keep the pace as he slipped just a bit down the leaderboard. Sophomore Edouard Brouchu was next for the Knights, hitting the 35th spot overall in 1:29.89 and Aleksa Lalic, another freshman for the Knights, took 41st in 1:32.03 to close out Clarkson's team time of 4:29.49.

Lalic was the start of numerous Clarkson skiers who finished in the 40s. Pedro Gonzalez was less than a quarter second behind his teammate with a time of 1:32.26 to finish 43rd, James Tucker was a half second slower than Gonzalez at 1:32.76 for 46th place, and Reed Martin ended up in 49th in 1:33.73. Noah Marino (51st, 1:34.20), Colin Cotter (57th, 1:36.04), Evan Phelps (59th, 1:37.26), Cole Rodman (65th, 1:43.13). Adin Freeman, Braden Kruk, and Jackson Knobloch each did not finish their first runs.

The women's race was a slightly smaller field of just 69 total skiers, but four of the Knights were in the top half of the standings. Hannah Goetz was the top performer for Clarkson, finishing in 20th place in 1:37.08, while Ariana Welter was one spot lower in 21st in 1:37.22. Elyse Donaghue, another senior, finished 29th in 1:41.41 to close out Clarkson's team time of 4:55.71. Parker Seitzer was three slots lower than Donaghue in 32nd with a time of 1:43.77, Lily Rogers took 37th in 1:48.29, and Kyla Butler was 40th in 1:51.56. Madeleine Allen was 44th after the first run, but she did not finish her second trip down the hill.
