Knights Win Second Ever USCSA Title with Victory in Giant Slalom

Wilmington, NY - Edouard Brochu and Aleksa Lalic finished third and fourth, respectively, for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights won their second ever title in the giant slalom on Wednesday at the USCSA National Champioships, held at Whiteface Mountain.

The Golden Knights topped the field with a combined time of 6:16.32, just ahead of Rocky Mountain College (6:17.32). Clarkson was able to jump a spot due to a fall by the first-place skier from Babson, who was unable to finish his second trip down the hill.

Brochu was the second-fastest skier in the first run and was 13th in his second trip down to combine for 2:03.84, placing him third out of 128 skiers overall. Lalic used consistency in his two runs, placing seventh each time to combine for the fourth-fastest time in 2:04.15. Jackson Knobloch and Reed Martin finished 16th and 17th, respectively, and even if one of them had been unable to finish, the Knights still would have claimed the giant slalom title. Knobloch jumped from 22nd in his first run to 11th in his second to end up 16th overall in 2:08.32. Martin's finish in his second run was also impressive, as he went from 28th in his first time to sixth for his second, putting him 17th with a time of 2:08.33. James Tucker was Clarkson's fifth skier, but did not finish.

This marks the second time that Clarkson has claimed an individual race team title, as the Knights also won the giant slalom back in 2018, also at Whiteface Mountain, though that margin was considerably tighter, when they won by .08 seconds over Sierra Nevada College and by .98 seconds over Rocky Mountain College.
