CU Golf Preview - at Oswego Fall Golf Invitational (9/27-28)

Coming off a win in Vermont last weekend, the Clarkson University Golf team will be looking to repeat this weekend when the team plays in the Oswego Fall Golf Invitational, held at the par-71 Oswego Country Club.

The Team: Last year, the Knights finished in the middle of the pack in Oswego, as scores were a little high for the 6300-yard course. Junior Eric Spoth was one player who had little trouble in Oswego, shooting 147 for the two days and finishing one stroke off the pace to place in a tie for second among the 47 golfers in the tournament. This year, Spoth is averaging 75.83 strokes per round, ranging from a low of 72 to a high of 79 for the fall. Ryan Makowski was three strokes out of first as a freshman, tying for fourth among 64 participants in 2023 (150), but shot 157 a year ago to tie for 20th in the smaller field. Makowski is off to a strong start this fall, averaging 73.83 strokes per round, and his average actually went up by more than stroke this past weekend at Castleton. Joining Spoth and Makowski as other members of the five-player team this weekend are Luke Weisiger, Joe Tiderencel, and Tyler Yacawych. Weisiger has shot either 75 or 77 in five of his six rounds this year, averaging 76.83 strokes per 18 holes. Tiderencel was in second place at the halfway point of the Castleton Invitational, and still held up to place third overall, putting his scoring average at 78.00 for the fall. Tyler Yacawych is averaging 79.50 strokes per round. It will be the first run in a tournament, collegiately, at Oswego for Weisiger, Tiderencel, and Yacawych.
