White and Vieira Crack Clarkson Record Book on Day of Liberty League Championships

Ithaca, NY – Owen White broke a 19-year-old school record in the 400 individual medley to highlight the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team's second day at the Liberty League Championships, held at Ithaca College.

Through 18 events, the Golden Knights' men remain in fifth place with 318 points, well ahead of sixth place Vassar (222) and a few solid results short of fourth place Skidmore (364). Clarkson's women moved up a spot in the standings, edging up to sixth with 209.5 points, just nine tallies ahead of St. Lawrence University and roughly 80 behind Union (286).

Day Two of 2025 Liberty League Championships

White was one of two record breakers for the Golden Knights on Thursday, joining first-year diver Evelyn Vieira. White bested Matt Ulsh's 2006 record in the 400 individual medley by just a few tenths of a second on Thursday morning, but then topped his own hours-old mark by nearly a second in the evening 'A' finals. Vieira broke a one-year-old mark in the 1-meter dive, topping teammate Paige Cutler's performance from a season ago.

White was the lone Clarkson competitor to compete in an 'A' finals on Thursday, taking seventh place in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:12.09. He was joined by teammates in the 'B' and 'C' finals, as Matt Sitarek came in 14th place in 4:18.27 and Tristan Miranda took 20th with a time of 4:32.51. Clarkson's women did not have any participants in the 400 individual medley.

In the 100 butterfly, Dani McDonald had the 24th spot, swimming in the 'C' finals, with a time of 1:04.34. On the men's side, four swimmers were in the finals, led by two in 'B' heat and two more in the 'C' heat. Michael Schroeder was 10th in 51.01 seconds and Landon Colby ended up 15th with a time of 52.31. Collin Losinger was 20th in 53.96 and Mason Cartier was one slot lower in 21st with a time of 54.08.

The 200 freestyle saw several Clarkson competitors compete in the finals heats on Thursday evening. Gabriela McSwieney had the top finish, tying for 13th in 1:59.32, while Natasha Hurff (1:58.86) and Ava Lamontagne (2:03.60) finished 18th and 24th, respectively. All four of Clarkson's nighttime swimmers for the 200 free were in the 'C' finals, led by Hannes Lohse, who took 19th in 1:46.06. Gavin Stuhler (1:46.47), Colin Cordy (1:47.68), and Andrew Sypko (1:48.42) claimed 20th, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively.

None of Clarkson's women's divers participated in the finals on Thursday evening, but Evelyn Vieira's 350.75 points placed her 12th in the preliminaries, setting a new school mark. Devon Sedlack was 16th in the same event with 291.70 points and Paige Cutler took 19th with a total of 255.15 points.

The evening ended with the 200 freestyle relay runs as the foursome of Ava Lamontagne, Dani McDonald, Ellen Patterson, and Natasha Hurff combined for a time of 1:44.33, good enough for eighth place points. Clarkson's men took seventh in 1:28.83, as the combination of Mason Cartier, Casey Everett, Hannes Lohse, and Andrew Sypko was .02 seconds off its prelim time.
