Knights Start Off Strong With Four School Records at Liberty League Championships

Ithaca, NY - First-year collegians Natasha Hurff and Fiona Reilly each set program marks for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights broke four team records on the first day of the Liberty League Championship meet hosted at Ithaca College.

Through nine events, the Golden Knights' men are in fifth place among 10 teams with 169 points, while the women are seventh of nine teams with 107 points.

Day One Results - 2025 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships

Hurff set a new standard in the 500 freestyle, topping a 15-year-old mark by Katherine Gawrys during the preliminaries and then besting her own mark in the finals in the evening. Reilly notched a new record in the 200 individual medley, beating out Abigail Sullivan's record achieved in 2015. For the men, Casey Everett just topped Mike Rowe's 15-year-old record in the 500 freestyle by .13 seconds during the preliminaries, while the group of Michael Schroeder, Calvin Woolfolk, Landon Colby, and Gavin Stuhler shaved roughly a second off the two-year-old record set in Feburary 2023.

The Knights started off the evening festivities by watching Natasha Hurff finish 10th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.84, which was nearly eight seconds faster than her seed time and close to three seconds faster than her time in the morning preliminaries. Gabriela McSwieney and Ellen Patterson competed in the 'C' finals, ending up in 19th (5:19.52) and 24th (5:35.66), respectively.

In the men's 'B' finals, Casey Everett placed 14th with a time of 4:44.1, slightly slower than his prelim time of 4:43.21 during the morning event. Three more Clarkson swimmers participated in the 'C' finals, led by Hannes Lohse, who placed 21st in 4:52.01. Colin Cordy was one slot lower in 22nd with a time of 4:52.60, and Tristan Miranda came in 24th in 4:56.23.

In the 200 individual medley, Fiona Reilly matched her prelim finish by taking 10th in the 'B' finals with a time of 2:12.93, roughly half a second slower than the morning finish.Aurora Zary vaulted a few spots from 16th up to 12th in the finals with a time of 2:14.97, slightly under two seconds faster than her prelim time.

For the men's 200 individual medley, Owen White barely missed out on the 'A' finals, but ended up in 16th in the 'B' heat Wednesday evening with a time of 1:59.28. That was a quarter second slower than his teammate Andrew Sammons, who finished in 15th place in 1:59.03. In the 'C' finals, Calvin Woolfolk moved up one spot from his prelim finish and ended up 19th overall in 2:00.12.

Dani McDonald was the lone Clarkson women's swimmer to make it into the finals for the 50 freestyle, where she would end up 24th overall in 26.63 seconds. For the men, two made it to the finals, led by Gavin Stuhler, who took 14th in 21.54 seconds in the 'B' heat. Andrew Sypko was 18th in the 'C' heat with a time of 22.01 seconds.

In the 3-meter dive, Gavin Cibelli and Carter Lancto just missed out on the finals. Cibelli scored 328.95 points to take ninth in the prelims while Lancto was at 298.80 for 10th.

Closing out the evening, Clarkson's women took sixth in the 400 medley relay, led by Aurora Zary, Fiona Reilly, Dani McDonald, and Gabriela McSwieney, ending up with a time of 4:10.81. The men finished in fourth place in the same event, as Michael Schroeder, Calvin Woolfolk, Landon Colby, and Gavin Stuhler collected a time of 3:26.22.
