CU Swimming & Diving Preview - at Liberty League Championships (2/19-22)

For four days the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program will join the rest of the conference schools descending on the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium as Ithaca College hosts the Liberty League Championships from Wednesday through Saturday this week.

Schedule:
Wednesday – 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, men's 3-meter dive, 400 medley relay
Thursday – 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, women's 1-meter dive, 200 freestyle relay
Friday – 200 medley relay, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, men's 1-meter dive, 800 freestyle relay
Saturday – 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 400 freestyle relay, women's 3-meter dive, 1650 freestyle

Clarkson Men: Though several Golden Knights may make it into the 'A' finals, sophomore Casey Everett owns the highest seed time of any Clarkson swimmer at the Liberty League Championships, as he was just over a second behind the top time in the 1650 freestyle. Everett already set a school mark in the 1000 freestyle (which was his seed time) and will be eyeing the 1650 freestyle record as well. Additionally, Everett is 10th in the 500 freestyle. Senior Michael Schroeder was busy a year ago, participating in several finals, and he is in the top 16 for the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 200 backstroke. Landon Colby joins him at 17th in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events.

Two more are hopeful for spots in the 'A' finals for the breaststroke events as both Calvin Woolfolk (6th 200 breaststroke, 9th 100 breaststroke) and Andrew Sammons (8th 200 breaststroke, 12th 100 breaststroke) could challenge the Clarkson record book. Similarly, Owen White had two top 20 seed times for the 200 individual and 400 individual medley events, while Gavin Stuhler could be participating in three finals in the shorter freestyle events, including a 16th-seed in the 50 free. Leading the Knights' in the diving events is first-year collegiate Gavin Cibelli, who had the eighth spot in both the 3-meter and 1-meter.

Clarkson Women: The Knights don't have quite the numbers on the women's side as the men, but there are still numerous competitors vying for positions in the 'A' finals. Natasha Huff had the highest seed time of any of Clarkson's women, placing herself eighth in the 500 freestyle as well as 21st in the 200 freestyle. Classmate Fiona Reilly was just outside the top 10 in three events, actually placing 11th in seed times in the 200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke, and 200 breaststroke. Aurora Zary, another first-year collegian, is in the top 20 on three occasions, ranking as high as number-14 in the 200 backstroke, while also positioned at 15 in the 200 individual medley, and 18 in the 100 backstroke. Gabriela McSwieney's top seed time is for the 1650 freestyle, where she is 15th. In the diving events, Evelyn Vieira was spotted at number-14 for the 3-meter and is two spots lower in the 1-meter event.
