CU Alpine Ski Preview - at USCSA Eastern Regionals (2/15-16)

The MacConnell Division's regular season came to a conclusion last weekend in Massachusetts, but now much of the region comes together for the USCSA Eastern Regionals in Maine as the Golden Knights look to earn a spot for the USCSA Nationals in March.

The USCSA Eastern Regionals will take place this weekend at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.

The Women: After some slips on the final weekend, the Golden Knights saw themselves fall to fourth in the MacConnell Division. However, when everyone keeps the skis the Knights are as good as anyone in the conference. Hannah Goetz finished fourth in the MacConnell Division standings with eight finishes in the top six and three podium positions. Ariana Welter claimed one runner-up showing as well as four top five finishes to place 10th in the league standings. Kyla Butler and Kylie Brino scored in all 10 races and ended up in 22nd and 26th place, respectively, while Elyse Donaghue ended up tied for 35th.

The Men: Clarkson dropped to third place in the MacConnell Division standings by a single point when the team ended up in fifth in last Saturday's slalom race, but remain strong contenders for this weekend and at the USCSA Nationals in March. Edouard Brochu was a runner-up this past weekend and ended up in seventh place in the league standings in his first collegiate season. Clarkson had two other skiers gain all-star status as well, with Jackson Knobloch ending the regular season in 10th place thanks to nine top-15 results, and Reed Martin coming in 14th overall. Clarkson has plenty of depth from which to choose for the USCSA Eastern Regionals since six skiers finished in the top 30 in the league standings. Josh Jusiak (18th), Pedro Gonzalez (20th), and Noah Marino (21st) all had standout performances, while Zach Zientko (25th), Colin Cotter (27th), and Aristotle Ninos (28th) were just as consistent. Each of the six skiers mentioned scored in at least seven of the 10 regular season events.
