Everett Breaks Three-Decade Program Mark on First Day of Middlebury Invite

Middlebury, VT – Sophomore Casey Everett shattered a 33-year-old school record to headline the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team's first session at the Middlebury Invitational.

Though the event is a non-scoring meet, several Clarkson swimmers stood out in Vermont, none more than the sophomore Everett. In the 1000 freestyle, Everett broke the 10-minute mark and finished second overall, closing out the lengthy race in 9:47.29, well over 13 seconds faster than the previous school record of 10:00.87 set by Tom Bendl back in February of 1992. The best finish of the day for any other Clarkson swimmer was also in the 1000 freestyle, as Gabriela McSwieney finished in 11:16.64 to take fourth place.

Most of Friday's events were shorter races as the day was filled with numerous 50-yard sets. Aurora Zary (29.10) and Michael Schroeder (24.21) had the top times for the Knights in the 50 butterfly, while McSwieney (30.67) and Mason Cartier (26.62) had the fastest Clarkson times in the 50 backstroke. Fiona Reilly then followed with the best performances among Clarkson swimmers in the 200 individual medley (2:20.36) and 50 breaststroke (35.22), while Calvin Woolfolk did likewise in the 200 individual medley (2:11.73) and 50 breaststroke (27.64). In the normal 50 freestyle, Ava Lamontagne recorded 27.36 and Gavin Stuhler had a time of 22.33.

First-year divers Evelyn Vieira and Gavin Cibelli had the best scores among Clarkson entrants, with Vieira coming in third with a score of 187.35 in the 3-meter and Cibelli placing fourth with 217.60 points.
