Knights Swimmers and Divers Sweep SUNY Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Casey Everett won all three of his individual starts as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team close outs its dual meet season with a sweep of SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at Maxcy Hall.

The Golden Knights' men won easily, 240-31, while Clarkson's women also cruised to a 175-89 victory. Clarkson will participate in the Middlebury College Invitational the final day of January and the first of February before participating at the Liberty League Championships in late February.

Everett, usually a participant in the longer events, still won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.20 but also claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle (1:50.49) and 200 butterfly (2:12.07). He also participated on the winning 200 freestyle relay team that consisted of Michael Schroeder, Everett, Hannes Lohse, and Owen White (1:32.43). That was the second winning relay for the Clarkson men, as the squad opened the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay, as Schroeder, Calvin Woolfolk, Landon Colby, and Gavin Stuhler combined for 1:41.18.

Each of those swimmers from the medley relay also won individual events on Saturday. Schroeder won the 200 backstroke (2:04.67) and 200 individual medley (2:03.19) and Gavin Stuhler won both of his sprint freestyle races, finishing the 50 free in 22.56 seconds and the 100 free in 50.79 seconds. Colby had the top finish in the 100 butterfly in 54.04 and Woolfolk swept the breaststroke races, taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.49 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.77. Other winners on Saturday for the men were Owen White (100 backstroke, 58.03) and Tristan Miranda (1650 freestyle, 18:09.46). Gavin Cibelli won both of the diving events for the Knights, scoring 248.11 in the 1-meter and 232.20 in the 3-meter dive.

Clarkson's women settled for a second place finish in the 200 medley relay but closed out the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay. Fiona Reilly, Dani McDonald, Natasha Hurff, and Gabriela McSwieney combined for the win in the latter relay with a time of 1:51.32. Three of those participants also won individual starts on Saturday. McSwieney claimed the 100 freestyle (58.59) and the 200 freestyle (2:08.08), while Reilly took both the 200 breaststroke (2:39.08) and 200 individual medley (2:20.19). Hurff also had a first place finish for the 100 breaststroke (1:17.34).

Three other Golden Knights' won two events against the Bears. Ellen Patterson had the top times in both of the long freestyle races, winning the 1650 in 20:24.87 and the 500 in 6:03.11. First-year collegian Aurora Zary had the top times in two events, taking the 50 freestyle in 27.53 and winning the 200 backstroke in 2:22.96. Evelyn Vieira swept the boards, winning the 1-meter with 206.11 points and late ending the 3-meter competition with 205.20 points.
