Clarkson defender,
Nicole Gosling, would end over 120+ minutes of scoreless hockey with an overtime goal at Princeton that locked up a top 4 finish in the ECAC and home ice in the quarterfinal round
The Knights struggle to score against Cornell extended into this game at Princeton on Friday as Clarkson would go another 3Â periods of good chances and a heavy shot total but no goals to show for their efforts, but as she has done 6 times already this season,
Michelle Pasiechnyk held Princeton to the same result.
Â
The Tigers would out shoot the Knights in the first period, 10 -8, while the Knights won the shot battle 12-11 in the middle frame.Â
Â
Midway thru the 3rd,
Keira Hurry would get called for a hold, giving Princeton a chance to take the lead on the power play, but a good possession by
Nicole Gosling would lead to a body checking call against Wallace, taking away the Tigers power play and giving the Knights a chance with the advantage after Hurry returned to the ice.
Â
Extra time would be required to decide the scoreless tie, and the Knights would have a chance in OT when
Anne Cherkowski would get the puck in the high slot. Her shot was blocked leading to a potential break the other way for Princeton, which caused Cherkowski to get tangled up with the Princeton forward and get called for tripping. The penalty to Cherkowski was negated by a hit from Sarah Fillier on Cherkowski as the whistle was blown. Getting Princeton's best player off the ice for part overtime was good for the Knights as they held possession for another minute plus until Issy Wunder tripped up a Knights player in the corner. On the ensuing 4 on 3 power play,
Nicole Gosling wired a shot past the left pad of Corniea to give the Knights the win. Â
Â
Â
The win allowed the Knights to keep pace in the ECAC where they still stand in 2nd place, but they actually dropped a spot in the Pairwise as Minnesota jumped them with their 1-0 win over St Cloud. A win tomorrow could potentially help the Knights back up to the 4th spot as Quinnipiac is #8 in the Pairwise. Â
Â
Clarkson will travel to face the Bobcats for a 3pm game in Hamden.Â
