Donaghue Wins GS at West Mountain

Queensbury, NY - Sophomore Elyse Donaghue became the first female Clarkson University Alpine Ski team member to win a MacConnell Division race in nearly a decade as she won the one-run giant slalom in the women's second race of the day at West Mountain.

The Golden Knights' women had a two-run giant slalom race where they finished third out of seven teams, while the one-run giant slalom race (a makeup from last weekend) saw Clarkson take fifth out of seven squads. Clarkson's men were also third out of seven teams.

The afternoon race that was limited to one trip down the hill saw Donaghue take the top spot among 51 skiers in 1:04.81. Kyle Brino was the next skier in the standings for the Knights, taking 17th with a one-run time of 1:10.49, and Kyla Butler came in 22nd in 1:11.68 to close out Clarkson's team time. Isabella Pelkey also tied for 31st in 1:17.60, while Hannah Goetz did not finish her one run.

Goetz was the top skier for the Knights in the scheduled two-run race that began the day, placing fifth in the field of 51 skiers with a time of 2:12.43. Donaghue was seventh in that event, finishing her two trips in 2:13.79, while Brino's time of 2:18.28 was good enough for 15th and finished off the team scoring. Kyla Butler was 20th in 2:19.58 and Isabella Pelkey came in 34th in 2:39.04.

On the men's side, Sam Hayden ended up in eighth place in a field of 71 skiers with a time of 2:03.22, as he had the fourth-fastest run on his second trip down the slopes. Jackson Knobloch ended up in 16th place in 2:06.64 and Reed Martin took 18th in 2:08.17 to close out Clarkson's top three skiers. Aristotle Ninos was 23rd in 2:09.49, Evan Phelps came in 28th in 2:11.19, Adin Freeman was 29th in 2:12.72, and Ryan Morse took 38th in 2:17.88.
