Nenadic Tops 38-Year-Old Clarkson Mark on Day Two of Liberty League Championships

Ithaca, NY – Graduate student Maria Nenadic broke a 38-year-old program record, leading the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program on day two of the Liberty League Championships, hosted by Ithaca College.

Through 20 events, the Clarkson men sit in fifth place with 344 points, while the Golden Knights' women are in eighth place with 211 points. The four-day meet resumes on Friday morning with preliminaries at 10:00 am and the finals again starting at 6:00 pm.

The evening opened with the Golden Knights' men in the third spot of the 200 freestyle relay, as the group of Gavin Stuhler, Tim Jordan, Andrew Sypko, and Connor Tasselmyer combined to produce a time of 1:24.95, shaving more than a second off of the previous standard set a year ago (1:26.23). On the women's side, Clarkson's foursome of Ava Lamontagne, Bella Triolet, Emily Greene, and Shannon Glor finished in eighth thanks to a time of 1:43.87.

The first individual event of the nighttime finals was the 400 individual medley, where five Clarkson men swimmers qualified from the preliminaries. Owen White and Matthew Sitarek qualified for the 'B' finals, with White placing 12th in 4:18.19 and Sitarek taking 16th in 4:25.48. The 'C' finals had three Clarkson swimmers taking up nearly half of the heat, as Colin Urmaza finished 22nd (4:30.43), Bradley Beall placed 23rd (4:31.31), and Tristan Miranda took 24th (4:32.46).

Maria Nenadic broke the 38-year-old mark, set by Anne Donato in 1986, in the 400 individual medley preliminaries, besting the previous mark by more than a second with a time of 4:45.51. She then trimmed close to another tenth of a second off in the 'A' finals, finishing the race in 4:45.42 to take sixth place in the field. Rachel Mietlicki (30th), Sydney Kanner (32nd), and Angela Tewksbury (33rd) just missed out on the finals.

Clarkson had three men and three women in the 100 butterfly finals. Landon Colby had the top finish for the Knights, tying for 13th with a time of 51.47 seconds, and Michael Schroeder placed 15th in the 'B' finals in 52.18 seconds. Mason Cartier also earned 24th-place points by finishing the 'C' finals in 54.83 seconds. For the women, three swam in the 'C' finals as well, led by the results of Grace Girard, who took 22nd in 1:04.19. Dani McDonald placed 23rd (1:05.16) and Bella Triolet claimed the 24th spot (1:05.47).

The 200 freestyle saw five more Clarkson men in the finals, though only Connor Tasselmyer appeared in the 'B' finals. Tasselmyer ended up in the 10th position with a time of 1:44.25. Half the 'C' finals heat was Clarkson swimmers, which was won by Gavin Stuhler, who took 17thin 1:46.20. Colin Cordy ended up in 22nd (1:48.09) and was followed by Tim Jordan in 23rd (1:48.86) and Aidan Spoors in 24th (1:48.88).

The women had two swimmers make the 'C' finals in the 200 freestyle. Gabriela McSwieney was in the 19th spot in the 'C' finals with a time of 1:58.89 and Ava Lamontagne placed 24th in 2:03.09.

The evening closed with the 400 medley relays, and the Golden Knights' men just missed out on setting a new school record by two-tenths of a second. Michael Schroeder, Andrew Sammons, Landon Colby, and Connor Tasselmyer combined for a time of 3:27.53 to take fourth place. Clarkson's women again took eighth place in the second relay of the day, as Maria Nenadic, Ava Lamontagne, Dani McDonald, and Gabriela McSwieney finished in 4:14.02.
