Donaghue On Podium at USCSA Eastern Regionals

Carrabassett Valley, ME – Sophomore Elyse Donaghue finished on the podium for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team, as the Golden Knights competed at the USCSA Eastern Regionals, held at Sugarloaf Mountain.

The Golden Knights' women took fifth place among 16 teams in the giant slalom, combining for a time of 5:51.96 (only 1.3 seconds out of fourth), while the men came in fourth place out of 16 teams, producing a team-time of 5:20.58, which was less than a second from the podium. The teams will compete in the slalom on Sunday.

Donaghue closed out her two runs with a time of 1:50.49 to take third in the field of 76 skiers. She had the fastest time in the first run in 55.36 seconds, but her second run of 55.13 seconds, though faster than her first, was the fourth best. Kyle Butler was next for the Knights, finishing in 27th place with a time of 1:58.92. Kylie Brino then closed out the team score for Clarkson when she took 33rd place in a time of 2:02.55. Isabella Pelkey was Clarkson's fourth skier for the day, as she placed in 53rd in the field in 2:14.08.

On the men's side, Sam Hayden placed 12th among 82 participants, though more than one-third of the field (28 skiers) were unable to finish both runs. Hayden was in the top 15 for both of his runs and finished in 1:45.94. Josh Jusiak was two spots further down the list of finishers, coming in 14th place in 1:46.62, and Reed Martin finished off Clarkson's team scoring time by finishing in 1:48.02, good enough for 18th place. Those three top 20 finishes proved key for Clarkson, as both Jackson Knobloch and Jack Donaldson did not finish their seconds run. Both performed well the first time down the hill, as Knobloch was in the top 15 for his opening run and Donaldson was in the top 25.
