Potsdam, NY - Evelyn Vieira broke a pair of diving records in her first collegiate meet as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving teams split the season-opener against Union College Saturday afternoon at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights' men won 217-80, while the Clarkson women fell by 43 points, 164.5-121.5. Clarkson is off next weekend but returns with a home meet against Skidmore College on October 26th.

Four different Clarkson swimmers won multiple events on the men's side of things. Casey Everett won a pair of freestyle distance races, taking the 400 freestyle (4:29.57) and the 800 freestyle (9:22.60). Andrew Sammons picked up first place finishes in both the 50 breaststroke (32.17) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.97) and Gavin Stuhler won the sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 freestyle (24.35) and 100 freestyle (55.25). Michael Schroeder won varying events, coming in first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.98) and 100 backstroke (1:02.90). Also winning individual races for the Knights were Tristan Miranda (200 freestyle, 2:04.48), Mason Cartier (50 backstroke, 28.74), and Owen White (200 individual medley, 2:23.10).

Clarkson's men also place first in both of the relays, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:52.01 thanks to the group of Schroeder, Sammons, Landon Colby, and Stuhler, while the 200 freestyle grouping of Hannes Lohse, Andrew Sypko, Colin Cordy, and Stuhler combined for 1:41.55.

Natasha Hurff won a pair of freestyle events for the Golden Knights' women, coming in first in the 200 freestyle (2:20.96) and 400 freestyle (4:55.36). Fiona Reilly tied for first in the 50 backstroke (34.28) early in the day and later on won the 200 individual medley (2:38.51) with a healthier margin. Gabriela McSwieney also won the distance freestyle event, taking first in the 800 freestyle (10:25.85). Although Evelyn Vieira ended up in second place in both of the diving events, she set new standards in the six-dive scoring, recording 186.45 points in the 1-meter dive and 207.10 points in the 3-meter event.
