Podium Finishes for Hayden and Goetz at UConn Invitational

Charlemont, MA – Both Sam Hayden and Hannah Goetz were on the podium with third-place finishes Friday evening as the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team participated in the slalom at the UConn Carnival held at Berkshire East Mountain Resort.

Clarkson hits the slopes early on Saturday, with the first run slated to begin at 8:30 am.

For the men, Sam Hayden was seventh in his first run but had the second-fastest trip for his late run to take third overall in a time of 1:29.84. No one else for the Knights was in the top 15, but there were plenty of Clarkson skiers in the top 40 among the 75 participants. Jackson Knobloch finished in 15th in 1:25.41 and Reed Martin was two slots lower in 17th with a time of 1:25.81. Aristotle Ninos then tied for 18th in 1:26.11. Lurking outside of the top 20, Josh Jusiak came in 21st (1:26.59), Zach Zientko took 22nd (1:26.83), and Cole Rodman ended in 28th (1:28.92). In the middle of the pack, Evan Phelps placed 33rd (1:29.80), Adin Freeman took 35th (1:32.79), and Ryan Morse claimed 39th (1:35.11).

Clarkson's women were somewhat shorthanded on Friday and needed steady results to have a shot in the team scoring. Elyse Donaghue did not finish her first run and Kylie Brino was out for the day, leaving just Goetz, Kyla Butler, and Isabella Pelkey. The trio did what was necessary as Goetz finished her day in third out of 55 skiers with a time of 1:29.34. Butler was just outside the top 20, taking 21st place in 1:38.20, and Pelkey ended her day in 36th with a time of 2:05.02.
