Clarkson's Frosh Stand Out on First Day of SLU Golf Invitational

Canton, NY - Through the first 18 holes of the two-day St. Lawrence Invitational, several first-year collegians are showing great promise for the Clarkson University Golf team, with Luke Weisiger sitting in second place at the midway point of the tournament thanks to a one-over par 73 at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

The Golden Knights' 'B' team actually outperformed the 'A' team on Saturday by two strokes, as the second group is in third out of nine teams and the first group is fourth. Clarkson's second squad shot 314 on day one while the regulars scored a 316. The teams trail St. John Fisher (295) and St. Lawrence's 'A' team (305), but each team has at least a nine-stroke advantage over the rest of the field.

Weisiger is second out of 53 golfers in the field, but he has a ways to go to make up the six stroke difference from the leader RJ Juodaitis of St. John Fisher, who shot 67. More tightly packed with Weisiger are six more golfers, as the freshman leads two others who scored 74 Saturday and four more golfers who shot 75. A little further back is classmate Ryan Makowski, who is tied for 12th with a 78, as well as Jace Dutch, another freshman who shot 78 on day one of the tournament. Returners Aaron Walsh and Andrew Palmatier each shot 79, tying them for 16th in the field. Also just inside the top 20 is Eric Spoth, who scored an 80 in his first collegiate round.

Daniel Wilson (81), Brant Bomberger (82), Dylan Farr (82), Zander Poole (85), Zachary Bruno (85), Joe Tiderencel (87), and Luke Baringer (89) rounded out Clarkson's opening day tallies.
