Two former number-one golfers in first-year head coach Tyler Cline and assistant Casey Ditzel as leading  the Clarkson University Golf team this year, as the duo will look to use their knowledge and experience to mold a young Golden Knights' squad this fall.

Each of the Golden Knights' golfers will have plenty of early opportunities to prove themselves in competitive rounds, as the team opens the 2023 season at the St. Lawrence Invitational this weekend in Canton, NY, and that tournament will be followed quickly by a one-day event at the Potsdam Town & Country Club next Tuesday.

The 13-player roster has just six returners on it, though three of those golfers took regular turns for the team's scoring five each weekend. Senior Zander Poole, junior Andrew Palmatier, and sophomore Brant Bomberger each competed in all 18 competitive rounds over the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023, providing the Knights with consistent scoring. As seems to be the case most years, scoring averages went up slightly in the spring as golfers shook off the rust from the winter and wore multiple layers in the spring. Poole averaged 80.94 strokes per 18 holes last year, with his score a full stroke lower in 12 fall rounds, while Palmatier shot 79.67 for the year, also close to a full stroke lower in the fall. Bomberger was one of the top first-year golfers in the conference to start the season, shooting just above 80 in the fall rounds before closing out the year at 81.56 strokes per 18 holes.

Upperclassmen Aaron Walsh (81.83), Dylan Farr (83.25), and Luke Baringer (84.25) played limited competitive rounds, though Walsh took his turn for six fall rounds. Each will be looking to see their name on the weekend lists in 2023-24.

The Golden Knights have a number of newcomers that need to be assessed in the early outings this fall and plenty have shown promise thus far. Zachary Bruno, Jace Dutch, Ryan Makowski, Eric Spoth, Joe Tiderencel, Luke Weisiger, and Daniel Walsh will all be jockeying for spots on the top team and second squad this year.
