For the second straight year, graduate student Evan Wetzel of the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team has been selected as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American, earning First-Team At-Large honors from the organization once again thanks to his outstanding effort on the slopes and in the classroom.

Wetzel was picked as what was once known as CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in 2022, and is one of three NCAA Division III selections to repeat as a First-Team pick in 2023. He is also one of only two skiers on the NCAA Division III At-Large team, which is a composite selection among teams without their own specific group. Wetzel is one of 16 student-athletes on the First-Team and one of 47 overall from Division III, which included sports such as men's volleyball, lacrosse, wrestling, ice hockey, skiing, fencing, and golf, among others.

List of Clarkson University CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Wetzel posted a 4.00 grade-point average as an undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering, and then repeated that with a 4.00 in Clarkson's MBA program this past year. He finished 11th out of 128 skiers at the 2022 USCSA National Championships in the giant slalom and as third at the 2022 USCSA Eastern Regionals. This past year, he did not record points in a weather-abbreviated 2023 USCSA Nationals in California, but did tie for 21st at the USCSA Eastern Regionals. He was also a 2023 MacConnell Division All-Star, placing in the top 15 in the league's point standings.

The grad student also served as the Vice President of the Graduate Business Association this past year and was formerly the Vice President of Clarkson's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was picked for two Clarkson University Awards, including the Philip "Pinky" Ryan Memorial Award (for the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA) and the Paul Hyde Memorial Award (presented to outstanding skier who has contributed eladership and athletic performance).

Wetzel is the first Clarkson student-athlete to repeat for the At-Large team since Christine Wright (women's lacrosse) in 2015-2016 and is only the second athlete ever at Clarkson to earn back-to-back At-Large First-Team honors, joining Katie Johnson (nordic skiing), who earned the honor in both 1999 and 2000.
