Nico Sturm helped Team Germany to a Silver Medal at the 2023 World Championships in Tampere, Finland. The Germans advanced to the championship game after a stunning upset over the USA in the semi-finals, where Nico contributed 1 assist.
Germany was 4-3 in the preliminary round, the final team to qualify from Pool A. In the playoff round, Sturm had a short handed goal in a 3-1 win over the Swiss in the quarterfinal round. After defeating the US team in overtime, the Germans ran into a tough Canadian team that took the Gold.
While a Golden Knight, Sturm skated in 118 games scoring 36 goals with 67 assists. He was named First-Team CCM/AHCA All-American, a Top 10 Hobey Baker Finalist in 2019, a Finalist for ECAC Hockey Player of the Year, and Two-time ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward. In his 3 seasons, he also was named First-Team All-League All-Star and named to conference championship tournament All-Tournament team. Joined Clarkson's Century Club with a goal and an assist in the ECAC quarterfinal Game 2, 5-2 victory over Yale and became the first Clarkson junior to reach 100 points since Erik Cole '00 (103 points) in the 1999-2000 campaign. After completion of Clarkson season, signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild for the remainder of the 2018-19 season. Nico still managed to Graduate while playing professionally, continuing the strong academics he demonstrated as a student athlete as he was named to ECAC Hockey All-Academic team and as an AHCA Krampade Scholar All-American.
Nico played in his 5th NHL season in 2022-23 with the San Jose Sharks, skating in 74 games, scoring 14 goals with 12 assists for 26 points.
