CU Softball Preview - vs. Rochester/RIT (4/21-22)

Having just passed the midway point of the regular season, the Clarkson University Softball team is seeking to make some noise in the Liberty League this weekend as the team hosts University of Rochester on Friday and then RIT on Saturday at Scott Field.

The Series: Clarkson is just 4-15 all-time against the Yellowjackets, having lost five straight games, though their last win was the first of the four-game series back in 2021. The Golden Knights are 14-6 in 20 meetings against RIT, including a current 12-game winning streak that dates back to the middle of the 2017 campaign.

Key Stats for Clarkson (14-10, 2-2 Liberty League): Over her last 25.2 innings of work, Devin Fitzpatrick has allowed just four earned runs, spanning five appearances, and that has produced 1.09 earned run average. For the year, she has a 3.58 earned run average with 60 strikeouts against just eight walks in 75.1 innings of work. At the plate, she is also producing with a .311/.380/.533 slash line in 50 plate appearances. Bridget Twaits leads the team in hitting with a .420/.484/.494 line and 16 runs scored.

Key Stats for Rochester (21-5, 4-0 Liberty League): The Yellowjackets have a solid offense in all facets of the game, including power and speed. The team has hit 14 home runs and stolen 68 bases in 79 tries. Hannah Keiper has hit five home runs and driven in 23 runs, tied for the team lead with Jenna Gorecki (23 RBI). Bailey Nicholoff is hitting .382 with four home runs and 15 stolen bases, and Ally Kim is batting .365 with 33 runs scored and 29 stolen bases. In the pitching circle, Molly Broccolo has dominated without racking up strikeouts. Broccolo has a 0.33 ERA with 44 whiffs in 85 innings, but has allowed only 48 hits and 11 walks.

Key Stats for RIT (3-21-1, 0-4 Liberty League): The Tigers offense is good enough to keep the team in games as Elise Guth leads the squad with a .421/.528/.596 slash line and 14 runs scored. Alexis Smith is also hitting a solid .328/.375/.469. However, the Tigers pitching staff has struggled to keep runners off the bases, giving up 261 hits and 90 walks in 151.1 innings of work, with only 67 strikeouts.
