Hayden and Donaghue Highlight CU Alpine Skiers in Slalom at USCSA Nationals

Mammoth Lakes, CA – Thursday's races were limited to one run, but both Sam Hayden and Elyse Donaghue placed in the top 20 of the slalom for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights finished in the top 10 in the event at the USCSA National Championships held at Mammoth Mountain.

The Golden Knights' men took ninth out of 26 teams in the slalom, while the Clarkson women were 10th out of 26 teams in the same event.

Due to high winds, previous events were cancelled earlier in the week, so to ensure that the student-athletes would all participate in at least one event during the championships, each race was limited to one run.

Hayden was the top skier for Clarkson, as he came in 12th place out of 137 skiers with a time of 46.00 seconds. Zach Zientko took 43rd in 49.23 seconds, and Reed Martin was in the top half of skiers as well by coming in 50th in 50.27 seconds. Both Evan Wetzel and Josh Jusiak were among the 21 skiers who were unable to finish the run.

For the women, first-year collegian Elyse Donaghue took 18th out of 132 skiers, crossing the finish line in 48.93 seconds. Shannon Quiles was next for the Knights, taking 41st in 53.55, Kyla Butler rounded out Clarkson's team scoring by placing 61st in 55.80 seconds. Kylie Brino was further down the list in 114th, finishing her run in 1:14.71. Hannah Goetz was one of 16 skiers who did not finish.
