Unbeaten in its first three games of 2023, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team will get its toughest challenge of the year so far when the team takes on North Central College on Sunday afternoon.

The Series: The two teams have never faced one another before, as North Central College's first season was only 2017. However, the Cardinals did reach the NCAA Tournament by winning their conference title in 2022.

Key Stats for Clarkson (3-0): The Golden Knights have allowed just seven goals in each of their three games so far, beating Brockport 16-7, Nazareth 12-7, and Oswego State 19-7. Grad student Jacob Mattice has been consistent in the Clarkson crease, posting a 6.18 goals against average in 165 minutes with a .575 save percentage. Patrick Sanna and Matt Szwagulinski have each caused seven turnovers and both Steve Kay and Mason Volley have six caused turnovers apiece. Clarkson also continues to excel on faceoffs, with Matthew Hansen winning 78.0% of his draws and Logan Wilkinson finding success 77.3% of the time. Thomas Fiebich leads the team in scoring with 13 points while Connor Matthews and Matt Reilly have posted 11 points apiece.

Key Stats for North Central (2-1): Situated in Illinois, the Cardinals rarely face teams from the East Coast, the stronghold of NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse, but North Central hasn't dodged any of the tougher teams from its region either, and the team reached the NCAA Tournament last season. Tom Ebherhardt recently broke the program's school record for career goals and has established himself as the team's go-to goal scorer with 15 goals in only three games this year. Nick Rubino (9-5-14) and Jack Moran (6-5-11) have also reached double digits in points so far this season. Zach Kuyava has won better than 50% of his draws (26-for-48) and is second on the team in groundballs with 13. Jake Allgood has started all three games in the crease for the Cardinals, posting a 9.50 goals against average with 21 saves in 120 minutes.
