There are several scenarios that get the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team into the Liberty League Tournament, but one part of the equation is key: the Golden Knights need to beat Union College on Saturday in Schenectady.

The Series: Clarkson's last win against Union came in 2023 by a score of 9-8, though the Knights were in solid spots in each of the last two games against the Garnet Chargers, leading at the half last year and being up in the third quarter of the 2024 contest.

Key Stats for Clarkson (8-5, 2-4 Liberty League): Clearly, the Golden Knights are capable of beating anyone in the league, as the team has wins over the first place and second place teams in the conference. The success has been keyed by Clarkson's defense, as the team has the most saves per game and the highest save percentage. Griffin Emerson, Jack Garvey, Dylan Coan, and Steve Getsie have been regulars patrolling the crease and its boundaries. Emerson tops the league in goals against average (8.72), save percentage (.609), and saves per game (13.15) while Garvey tops the league in caused turnovers per game (2.46).

Key Stats for Union (5-11, 3-3 Liberty League): The Garnet Chargers may have played the toughest schedule in the country this spring, facing seven teams in the top 20 in the NPI and 13 in the top 35, including Clarkson (32) on Saturday. That strong out of conference slate has them prepared to make the league tournament with a win despite their sub .500 record overall. Walker Popko leads the team with 59 points on 42 goals and 17 assists and Garrett Salit has also contributed 48 points (24-24-48). The top defender is John Sula with 24 caused turnovers and 73 groundballs, while Nick Lynch has a .540 save percentage overall and a .553 mark in six league contests.
