Goetz, Hayden, and Donaghue Take Podium Spots for CU Alpine at Castleton Invite

Queensbury, NY – With temperatures warmer on day two of the Castleton Invitational, the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team was able to get multiple results in as the Golden Knights enjoyed solid showings on Sunday at West Mountain.

The Clarkson women finished third out of eight teams in their initial two-run giant slalom race, and then came in second out of eight teams in the latter race, which was limited to one run down the hill. The Clarkson men also produced the same effort in their two separate races.

In the first race of the day, Elyse Donaghue led the Knights with a third-place overall finish (among 58 competitors), closing out her two runs down West Mountain in 2:11.32. After slipping up on Saturday, Hannah Goetz was back to her normal production, finishing in fifth place in 2:11.76. Shannon Quiles closed out Clarkson's team scoring with a 14th-place finish in 2:18.93. Kyla Butler (20th, 2:21.56), Kylie Brino (28th, 2:23.57), and Isabella Pelkey (31st, 2:32.19) also performed well at the MacConnell Division event.

The afternoon race saw Hannah Goetz take the runner-up spot, as she was second out of 58 skiers in 1:03.20. Donaghue was sixth with a time of 1:05.32, and Quiles took 17th with a run of 1:09.88. Brino (24th, 1:10.78), Butler (25th, 1:11.00), and Pelkey (28th, 1:14.03) were also in the top half of the field in the second giant slalom race.

In the first giant slalom race of the day for the men, Sam Hayden placed second out of 77 skiers with a time of 1:59.37, as he was third after his opening run and then had the fastest time in the second run of the race. Josh Jusiak also improved his placement in the standings after his opening run, as he came in ninth in 2:03.92. Evan Wetzel and Reed Martin tied for 10th with a time of 2:04.52 to round out Clarkson's team time. The rest of Clarkson's skiers were in the top half of the field as well. Zach Zientko came in 12th (2:04.55), Noah Marino was 16th (2:05.39), Braden Kruk came in 20th (2:05.93), and Aristotle Ninos placed 24th (2:07.66) as skiers in the top third of competitors. Dylan West (27th, 2:08.87), Yuto Takai (31st, 2:10.32), and Ryan Morse (34th, 2:11.35) were also in the top half. Cole Rodman was 33rd after his first run, but did not finish his second.

The Knights had a shuffling at the top for their team score in the second giant slalom race of the day. Jusiak was fifth in 1:00.67 to lead the way, and Wetzel was narrowly behind in 1:00.74 to place sixth. Hayden finished off the team time by coming in 11th in 1:01.30. Braden Kruk was 10th, but was not a part of the team's top scoring squad, finishing with a time of 1:01.16. Yuto Takai also performed well, racing to a 17th-place finish in 1:01.47. Zach Zientko (21st, 1:03.10), Dylan West (29th, 1:04.35), Ryan Morse (30th, 1:04.51), and Aristotle Ninos (36th, 1:06.12) also finished in the top half of the field. Noah Marino, Reed Martin, and Cole Rodman did not finish.
