Hayden and Donaghue on Podium for Knights on Day One at West Mountain

Queensbury, NY – Sam Hayden finished both of his runs in the top three to take podium for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team, as the Golden Knights skied on a frigid Saturday at West Mountain.

The Golden Knights' men took second out of eight teams, while Clarkson's women finished third among eight squads, despite not having three of their skiers finish both runs. The teams will compete in the giant slalom again on Sunday.

Hayden was the headliner for the Knights, as he finished second among 75 starters overall, closing out the day with a combined time of 1:57.68. Evan Wetzel was next for the Knights, as he had a two-run time of 2:01.57, placing ninth overall, and Josh Jusiak came in 11th in 2:02.56 to close out Clarkson's team time. Clarkson's men showcased their depth on Saturday, as 11 skiers finished in the top half of the leaderboard. Reed Martin was 13th in 2:03.26, and Zach Zientko took 17th in 2:04.84, finishing off Clarkson skiers in the top 20. The 20s were well populated with Golden Knights, as Noah Marino was 21st (2:05.92), thanks to a fast second run, Aristotle Ninos was 22nd (2:06.35), Dylan West came in 24th (2:06.86), Braden Kruk placed 26th (2:07.11), and Cole Rodman took 28th (2:08.63). Ryan Morse also finished 33rd with a time of 2:10.90.

On the women's side, Elyse Donaghue nearly matched Hayden's finish on the men's side, but still recorded a podium spot by taking third in 2:13.95. Kyla Butler was next for the Knights, as she had a solid second run to jump five spots in the standings, earning 12th place in 2:20.11. Isabella Pelkey also played a crucial role by keeping her feet in her two runs, taking 22nd in 2:30.57. Hannah Goetz did not finish her first run, while Kylie Brino and Shannon Quiles were unable to complete both of their runs as well.
