In advance of the USCSA National Championships in California, both the Clarkson University Alpine and Nordic Ski teams will be sending a few representatives to Lake Placid this weekend, as the Golden Knights will compete at the St. Lawrence Carnival/NCAA Eastern Regionals.

On Friday, the Alpine team will compete in a FIS giant slalom race and Saturday will be a FIS slalom event. The Nordic squad will participate on Friday in the 10K Skate, with individual starts, while Saturday's event is a 20K Classic mass start.

Alpine: Clarkson will be sending six skiers to compete at the NCAA Eastern Regionals, including two women and four men. Hannah Goetz and Elyse Donaghue spent most of the year as the top skiers for the Knights' women, and their performances in FIS races illustrated that. Goetz was 14th out of 80 skiers in the giant slalom at Whiteface on January 28th, while Donaghue took 24th on the same day. Both also posted solid results in a FIS slalom event, though it was not at Whiteface. Goetz took 32nd and Donaghue was 39th, both in the top half of skiers on January 14th.

The men will send four skiers at Sam Hayden, Josh Jusiak, Reed Martin, and Zach Zientko will head to Lake Placid once again. Hayden recorded some impressive times in the giant slalom in late-January, taking 13th of 89 skiers on January 27th, and 9th of 84 on January 28th. Among the four that are heading to the NCAA Eastern Regionals, Hayden was the only skier to make it through all of his runs during FIS races. Reed Martin did finish 36th of 84 in the giant slalom, while both Jusiak and Zientko were each in the top 50 in one slalom race and one giant slalom event.

Nordic: None of Clarkson's skiers have participated in a 20K event this year in any USCSA races, but the four skiers going to Mt. Van Hoevenberg for the NCAA Eastern Regionals have experience in 10K races. Conner Roberts had his worst finish of the year at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in January, but that wasn't from a poor performance but faulty equipment. Even after replacing a broken ski, Roberts still finished 15th out of 63 participants in the 10K Skate in January (30:34.3) and in the other 10K Skate race of the year he was more than two minutes faster. Joey Rouhana had two sub-30 minute performances in 10K Skate events this year, while both Cameron Bancroft (17th of 63) and Noah Payne (19th of 63) showed well at the Clarkson Invitational. In the 20K on Saturday, Clarkson will have just three of the four skiers, as Payne will not compete that day.
