Knights In Top Three in Slalom at USCSA Eastern Regionals

Carrabassett Valley, ME – Both teams reached the podium on Saturday, as the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team posted solid results in the slalom on the first day of the USCSA Eastern Regionals, held at Sugarloaf Mountain.

The Golden Knights' men placed second out of 16 teams, while the women earned the third spot among 15 teams. The team will compete again on Sunday with two runs in the giant slalom.

Hannah Goetz had the top finish of the day, as she placed third among 78 skiers in her two runs down the hill with a combined time of 1:33.28. Her first run had her in the third spot, and her second run she was runner-up, but the two times weren't quite enough to earn her the silver for the day. Elyse Donaghue ended up in eighth place after a strong second run helped her move up two spots from the initial post, as she put up a time of 1:36.32. Shannon Quiles took 15th overall in 1:41.11 to close out Clarkson's team scoring, and Kyla Butler was 33rd in the field in 1:51.09. Kylie Brino was disqualified in her first run.

On the men's side, Clarkson slipped into the second spot by a little over a second overall. Sam Hayden finished fifth with two runs in the top five, combining for a time of 1:23.20. Josh Jusiak vaulted up the leaderboard thanks to an impressive second run, which was the seventh fastest in the latter race, putting him in eighth overall in 1:26.44. Zach Zientko closed out Clarkson's team score by taking 17th in 1:29.18. Evan Wetzel and Dylan West both had times good enough that would have kept the Knights in second as well, as the two tied for 21st^t in 1:30.21.
