Two Relay Marks Fall for CU Swimming & Diving on Day Two of Conference Meet

Ithaca, NY – Two records fell for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team on Thursday evening, as the Golden Knights' men broke school marks in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 individual medley relay on day two of the Liberty League Championships held on the campus of Ithaca College.

At the halfway point of the annual conference meet, the Golden Knights' men are seventh among nine teams with 356 points, while the Clarkson women are seventh out of 10 teams with 234 points.

Clarkson's group of Tim Jordan, Collin Slupe, Andrew Sypko, and Connor Tasselmyer set a new program mark in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:26.23, taking fifth place in the meet, and shaving .29 seconds off the program's previous best mark set in 2019. In the 400 medley relay, Clarkson bested a three-year-old record by about a second as Michael Schroeder, Colin Urmaza, Landon Colby, and Tasselmyer produced a time of 3:27.33, taking fifth once again.

Both of Clarkson's top relay teams for the women finished eighth on Thursday, as Grace Girard, Ava Lamontagne, Emily Greene, and Aurelia Leonard finished the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.75, and the grouping of Leonard, Lamontagne, Bella Triolet, and Gabriela McSwieney closed out the 400 medley relay in 4:09.29.

Fifteen individual swimmers advanced to the finals after recording solid times in the morning preliminary races. The best finish of the day came from Landon Colby, who took 10th in the 100 butterfly in 50.84 seconds, less than a quarter-second off the school record set in 1997. Michael Schroeder was one spot behind Colby in that race, taking 11th in 51.85, while Alex Estano came in 18th in 55.15. Three swimmers also participated in the 'C' finals of the 400 individual medley, with Guillermo Barrios (18th, 4:30.07), Bradley Beall (19th, 4:31.82), and Tristan Miranda (20th, 4:32.96) finishing consecutively. Three more men swam in the 'C' finals of the 200 freestyle as well, led by Andrew Sypko, who came in 19th in 1:48.19. Tim Jordan was also 21st in 1:49.34 and Collin Slupe placed 22nd with a time of 1:49.78.

On the women's side, Madelyn Nowicki had the best finish of the day, taking the 12th spot in the 400 individual medley, with Bella Eremita (21st, 5:17.16) and Sydney Kanner (23rd, 5:25.34) participating in the 'C' finals. Bella Triolet was in the middle of the 'B' finals heat, coming in 13th in 1:00.72, and Grace Girard claimed 20th in 1:02.56. Later in the day, Gabriela McSwieney placed 18th in the 200 freestyle, finishing the event in 1:59.03.
