Nenadic and Schroeder Enjoy Big Days at Don Richards Invitational

Rochester, NY – Grad transfer Maria Nenadic won the 400 individual medley and had two other events where she picked up key points for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team, as the Golden Knights men and women each finished in the top four at the Don Richards Invitational, hosted by RIT.

The Golden Knights' men were just edged out of the second spot as they finished behind RIT (1480) and Skidmore College (591) with 585 points. The Clarkson men ended up ahead of Monroe Community College (260), Roberts Wesleyan University (246), St. Lawrence University (134), Hobart College (120), and Bard College (9). Clarkson's women leapfrogged a couple of teams to place fourth with 295 points. The Green and Gold women trailed RIT (1153), Skidmore College (710.5), and St. Lawrence University (504.5), but led Mount Holyoke College (279), William Smith College (255), Roberts Wesleyan University (250), Monroe Community College (44), and Bard College (26).

Nenadic finished first in the 400 individual medley to headline the Knights' Saturday performances, winning the event with a time of 4:48.10. Nenadic later finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:02.38) and sixth in the 200 backstroke (2:15.77) to earn the most points of any Clarkson swimmer on the day. Gabriela McSwieney also had two top-seven finishes, coming in fifth the in 1650 freestyle (18:41.00) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:00.61). The only other Clarkson individual to finish in the top 10 of any individual event was Rachel Mietlicki, who took ninth in the 400 individual medley (5:21.23).

Clarkson's women also performed well in the relay events. Bella Triolet, Sydney Kanner, Grace Girard, and McSwieney combined for sixth place in the 200 medley relay (2:00.23), while Nenadic, Girard, Emily Greene, and McSwieney put together a time of 3:46.18 in the 400 freestyle relay, good enough for fourth place.

For the men, junior Michael Schroeder had a standout day with four top-10 showings. He took third in the 100 backstroke (53.09), fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:55.71), seventh in the 200 butterfly (1:59.24), and 10th in the 100 butterfly (52.34). Other swimmers also scored points in several of the events in which Schroeder competed, as Landon Colby was ninth in the 100 fly (52.29), Mason Cartier took seventh in the 100 backstroke (57.11), Owen White came in 10th in the 200 backstroke (2:03.81). White was also eighth in the 400 individual medley (4:26.50), one spot ahead of Matthew Sitarek (4:29.30).

The Knights took the last five spots of the top 10 of the 1650 freestyle with Colin Cordy taking sixth (17:52.06), Bradley Beall coming in seventh (18:20.48), and Guillermo Barrios (18:23.60), Aiden Spoors (18:42.41), and Lucas Monroe (18:50.71) taking the next three spots. Similarly, Clarkson had three straight finishers in the 100 breaststroke, led by Calvin Woolfolk in sixth (59.85), Andrew Sammons in seventh (1:00.54), and Daniel Russotti in eighth place (1:01.64). The Knights also had four in the top 10 of the 200 breaststroke, led by Sammons in fifth (2:13.27) with Woolfolk (2:13.33, sixth), Collin Urmaza (2:16.58, seventh), and Sitarek (2:17.34, ninth) close behind.

Connor Tasselmyer also took fourth in the 100 freestyle (47.09) and Gavin Stuhler was ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.02). Clarkson's two relay teams each finished third. Schroeder, Russotti, Colby, and Tasselmyer combined for a time of 1:36.76 in the 200 medley relay, and White, Colby, Stuhler, and Tasselmyer closed out the 400 freestyle relay in 3:12.48.
