Colby Wins 200 Fly to Highlight CU Swimmers at North Country Invitational

Potsdam, NY – A couple of close calls and numerous second-place finishes were the order of the day for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights closed out the North Country Invitational at Maxcy Hall.

The Golden Knights' men placed second out of the five teams with 480 points, trailing St. Michael's (655) but well ahead of Oneonta State (265), Oswego State (216), and SUNY Potsdam (167). The women ended up in third with 334 points, behind St. Michael's (659) and Oswego State (435), but comfortable ahead of Oneonta State (257) and SUNY Potsdam (172).

The lone winner for the Knights on Saturday was Landon Colby, as the sophomore took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.39, besting his teammate Michael Schroeder, who was the runner-up with a time of 2:05.81. Schroeder also finished second later in the day in the 100 backstroke in 54.62 seconds.

Connor Tasselmyer nearly won his event, but was beaten to the touch pad by 0.04 seconds in the 100 freestyle in 47.94 seconds. Gavin Stuhler also placed fifth in the race in 48.73 seconds, and the freshman ended up taking fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.54. In the longest freestyle race of the day, Casey Everett came in second place in the 1650 with a time of 17:44.51 while Colin Cordy took fifth in 18:11.44. Owen White also came in fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:34.88) and Drew Sammons was fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.40).

On the women's side, Bella Triolet and Gabriela McSwieney ended up as the second-place finishers in their respective races as well. Triolet took the runner-up spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.36, while McSwieney was barely edged by 0.07 seconds in the 100 freestyle (56.50). McSwieney later claimed third in the 200 freestyle (2:03.68).

Other top five finishers for the Knights on day two were Maria Nenadic, who took third in the 400 individual medley (5:05.81), Paige Cutler, who placed fourth in the 1-meter dive (156.70 points), and Angela Tewksbury, who finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.02).
