Knights Swimmers and Divers in Solid Spot at Midway Point of North Country Invitatoinal

Potsdam, NY - At the halfway point of the annual North Country Invitational, the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team sits in second and third place, respectively, as the Golden Knights competed in their first invitational of the 2023-24 season.

The Golden Knights' men scored 209 points through the first half of the annual NCI, putting them in second place behind St. Michael's College (282), but ahead of Oneonta State (144), Oswego State (117), and host SUNY Potsdam (92). The Clarkson women are in the middle of the pack with 175 points, training St. Michael's (349) and Oswego State (224), but ahead of Oneonta State (136) and SUNY Potsdam (80). The meet resumes on Saturday morning. 

Clarkson's women started off the meet with a third-place showing in the 400 medley relay thanks to the foursome of Grace Girard, Angela Tewksbury, Maria Nenadic, and Emily Greene, as that group finished in 4:30.13. Girard ended up placing fourth in a pair of events, scoring key points in the 200 individual medley (2:24.33) and 100 butterfly (1:05.58). Maria Nenadic also had a pair of top-five finishes for the Knights, placing second in the 200 individual medley (2:23.46) and the 1650 freestyle (19:50.36). Gabriela McSwieney was the runner-up in the 1650 free (18:51.30), Paige Cutler was third in the 3-meter dive (162.20), and Shannon Glor placed fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:45.44). The Knights closed out day one with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as Nenadic, Emily Greene, McSwieney, and Girard combined for 1:49.22. 

The Golden Knights' men began the NCI with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay, as Michael Schroeder, Drew Sammons, Landon Colby, and Connor Tasselmyer combined for a time of 3:38.44. Three swimmers finished as the runner-up in their respective events. Schroeder was second in the 200 backstroke (1:59.08), Tasselmyer just missed out on the top spot in the 50 freestyle (21.58 seconds), and Landon Colby was the silver spot in the 100 butterfly (54.06 seconds). The Knights had depth in the 500 freestyle as Tristan Miranda (5:05.72) and Casey Everett (5:06.85) finished back-to-back in third and fourth, while Calvin Woolfolk (1:02.01) and Drew Sammons (1:02.83) hit the same spots in the 100 breaststroke. Gavin Stuhler also came in fifth place in the 50 freestyle in 22.15 seconds. Clarkson's 200 freestyle relay team of Stuhler, Colin Cordy, Tim Jordan, and Tasselmyer ended the first day's events by taking third with a time of 1:29.35.
