Lake Placid, NY – Junior Sam Hayden of the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team ascended into the top 15 after his second run to help lead the Golden Knights at their second FIS race of the season, held on Friday at Whiteface Mountain.

Both the men and women ended up in third place among MacConnell Division teams. The Golden Knights' men were less than three seconds out of the runner-up spot, while the women edged the fourth-place team by just over a second. Clarkson and the rest of the field will compete in another FIS giant slalom event on Saturday morning.

Hayden ended up in a tie for 13th among 89 competitors in the giant slalom on Friday with a two-run time of 1:53.19. Hayden was in 20th after the first run, but he had the sixth-best time in the second trip down the hill to vault himself higher in the standings. He was the lone Clarkson male skier to finish in the top 30, as five Clarkson student-athletes could not finish both of their runs. Evan Wetzel took 34th in 1:56.13 and Josh Jusiak was 42nd in 1:58.94 to round out the Golden Knights' team time. Dylan West came in 47th in 2:01.72 and Aristotle Ninos was 48th in 2:01.79. Noah Marino, Reed Martin, and Cole Rodman tripped up in their first runs down the hill, while Adin Freeman and Zach Zientko came up short in their second runs. Zientko was in the 44th spot after his opening trip and Freeman was 61st.

All seven skiers stood up in both of their runs on the women's side, headlined by first-year collegian Hannah Goetz. Goetz had the 28th-best time in both runs, and placed 28th overall among 78 skiers with a time of 2:01.92. Shannon Quiles claimed the 37th spot with a time of 2:05.77 and Elyse Donaghue was 48th in 2:09.94. Kylie Brino (51st, 2:10.76) and Kyla Butler (58th, 2:14.63) each moved up numerous spots after their first runs, but couldn't quite break the top 50. Isabella Pelkey also took 64th (2:22.67) and Abigail Jacunski placed 69th (2:33.08).
