Knights Finish Third in Slalom Night Race at Willard Mountain

Greenwich, NY – Sophomore Josh Jusiak and freshman Hannah Goetz headlined the day for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team, as the Golden Knights recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the slalom at the UConn Invitational held at Willard Mountain.

The Clarkson men ended up in third out of eight teams, while the Golden Knights' women took third out of seven squads. The teams will be back in action next weekend on the familiar slopes of Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, NY.

Hannah Goetz was about a half second off the pace in the slalom, taking second among 63 participants in the slalom, finishing her two runs with a time of 1:06.29. Her first run was the tied for second and then her next run was the second-best. Shannon Quiles came in 11th place in 1:10.65 and Elyse Donaghue came in 20th in 1:12.67 to close out Clarkson's team time. Abigail Jacunski ended up in 34th in 1:21.09 and Kyla Butler took 38th with a time of 1:27.06. Clarkson's other two skiers, Kylie Brino and Isabella Pelkey either did not finish or were disqualified.

On the men's side, Josh Jusiak's steady performance allowed him to finish sixth out of 71 skiers with a time of 1:03.97. His first run was the eighth-fastest time in the field, as was his second trip down the hill. Classmate Zach Zientko was similarly consistent and ended up with a time of 1:04.99 in ninth place, as both of his runs were the 12th-fastest in the field. Aristotle Ninos was the next quickest for Clarkson, coming in 15th in 1:06.38, and he was closely followed by teammates Reed Martin in 16th (1:06.41) and Evan Wetzel in 17th (1:06.57). Clarkson had one other skier finish in the top 20 as well, with Dylan West taking 19th in 1:07.59.
