Knights Take Third on Day Two of Babson Invitational

Andover, NH – Skiers struggled to keep their footing on Sunday, but the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team used its depth to stay in the middle of the pack of MacConnell Division teams as the squad competed in a FIS slalom event at the Proctor Ski Area, hosted by Babson College.

The Golden Knights' men came in third play among division teams, while the women also ended up in third place. The team will compete in the UConn Invitational next weekend at West Mountain in Queensbury, NY.

The men's and women's fields combined for 213 skiers on the start list but nearly 80 were unable to complete both runs, making depth a key component in the team scoring. For the men, Sam Hayden led the way with an impressive second run, finishing 39th overall among 113 skiers with a time of 1:32.81. Josh Jusiak was about a second slower with a time of 1:33.89 to take 42nd place and Noah Marino closed out Clarkson's team time by taking 43rd in 1:33.90. Reed Martin was the only other skier among Clarkson's six potential scorers to finish the race, ending up in 56th in 1:39.10. Outside of the team scoring were individuals Jack Donaldson (47th, 1:34.73) and Aristotle Ninos (49th, 1:35.63). Dylan West, Evan Wetzel, and Zach Zientko did not complete their second runs to qualify for the final standings.

On the women's side, three skiers were able to complete the course to allow Clarkson to qualify for the team scoring. Shannon Quiles was Clarkson's top skier, taking 40th among 100 competitors in 1:49.48, while first-year collegians Kylie Brino (48th, 1:54.26) and Kyla Butler (54th, 2:02.03) did enough to put the Knights in the middle of MacConnell Division squads. Hannah Goetz did not finish her opening run and Elyse Donaghue was disqualified on the first trip down the mountain.
