Knights' Alpine Finishes Second and Third in GS at West Mountain

Queensbury, NY – Sophomore Sam Hayden returned to the top three on Sunday for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as the Golden Knights closed out the MacConnell Division regular season with a giant slalom race at West Mountain.

The Green and Gold's men finished second out of eight teams while Clarkson's women edged up a spot from yesterday to take third out of the seven squads in their race. Clarkson will compete in the USCSA Regionals next weekend at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.

Hayden was back to his accustomed spot among the leaders in the second giant slalom race of the weekend, placing third out of 63 competitors with an overall time of 1:51.81 in his two runs down the hill. Senior Evan Wetzel just missed out on a podium spot by taking fifth in the event in 1:53.23, and Clarkson's team time was closed out with Kelsey Kubota, who took ninth overall in 1:54.45. Clarkson had five others in the top 20 of the field as well. Dylan West came in 13th in 1:55.53, Zach Zientko was 15th in 1:55.71, Josh Jusiak took 16th in 1:55.85, Yuto Takai was 17th in 1:56.60, and Nathan Briselden came in 19th with a time of 1:56.85.

For the second straight day, Beth Fisher was the top performer for Clarkson, coming in 12th place out of 57 skiers with an overall time of 2:02.96. Shannon Quiles once again edged her way into the top 20 by coming in 17th in 2:03.80, and Taylor Hubert ended up in 26th with a time of 2:05.52 to finish Clarkson's team score. Abigail Jacunski also finished 38th in 2:30.04 and Sara LoPresti was 40th in 2:32.60.
