Clarkson Swimmers & Divers Sweep Second Straight Dual Meet

Potsdam, NY – Five swimmers won multiple events for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team, as the Golden Knights picked up their second straight dual meet sweep against St. Michael's College on Saturday afternoon at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights' women won 177-112, their fourth straight victory over St. Michael's, while Clarkson's men came out victorious 183-110, extending a decade-long streak of wins over the Purple Knights. Clarkson will compete in its first invitational next weekend when the team travels across town to SUNY Potsdam for the annual North Country Invitational.

Aurelia Leonard picked up two more individual wins in the 100 backstroke (1:11.16) and 100 butterfly (1:13.68) as well as swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team (2:12.17) and 200 freestyle relay squad (1:57.12), joining Claudia Scala, Bella Triolet, and Ava Lamontagne on the former and Lamontagne, Triolet, and Gabriela McSwieney on the latter. McSwieney also won two individual events to go along with swimming on the winning relays, coming out ahead in the two longer freestyle runs. McSwieney won the 800 freestyle in 10:02.35 and later the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:56.22.

Leonard and McSwieney were the only two female swimmers to gain multiple victories in individual events, but plenty of others picked up wins in their starts. Claudia Scala came in first in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.09), Madelyn Nowicki won the 200 butterfly (2:46.40), Bella Triolet took the 200 backstroke (2:42.32), and Paige Cutler won the 3-meter dive with 128.25 points.

On the men's side, first-year collegian Connor Tasselmyer won two individual races and also swam on the winning relays. The 200 medley relay (1:53.24) consisted of Aiden Howard, Colin Urmaza, Michael Schroeder, and Tasselmyer, while the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.73) was a foursome of Tim Jordan, Finn Halstead, Howard, and Tasselmyer. Tasselmyer also won the 50 freestyle (23.94), setting a new pool record in the process, and 100 freestyle (55.71).

Michael Schroeder was on the winning medley relay and also showcased his abilities with wins in the 200 butterfly (2:21.00) and 200 backstroke (2:19.10). Freshman Landon Colby also came up with two wins late in the meet, taking the 100 butterfly (1:01.31) and 200 individual medley (2:22.82). Other winners for Clarkson included Guillermo Barrios in the 800 freestyle (9:27.94), Aiden Howard in the 100 backstroke (1:05.50), Colin Urmaza in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.43), and Max Lempert's victory in the 1-meter dive with 157.20 points.
