CU Swimming & Diving Preview - at St. Lawrence/Skidmore (10/28-29)

The Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team showed some promise in the first tri-meet last weekend against RIT and St. Lawrence, and the Golden Knights will return for a dual meet against the Saints on Friday before heading to Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon for the second dual meet of the weekend.

The Series: Against St. Lawrence, Clarkson's men have held a significant advantage in recent years, winning 11 straight meets (including the head-to-head matchup last weekend), while the Golden Knights' women have been on the opposite side, beating the Saints only once in the last decade, a victory which came in 2021. The matchup between Clarkson and Skidmore is not as long, as the two teams first started competing in dual meets during the COVID season. The Knights swept last year's meet, but in the split meet of March 2021, Skidmore won the women's event 160-131 while the Clarkson men came away with a 161.5-128.5 victory.

Key Stats for Clarkson Men: Sophomore Tristan Miranda had the top times in the 500 and 1000 freestyle against the Saints last weekend and will be counted upon once again on Friday. He also posted wins in the 400 and 800 freestyle races versus the Saints last year. Classmate Michael Schroeder may see a big weekend ahead as well, as he had three individual wins against St. Lawrence last weekend in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 200 backstroke, as well as victories in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley during his freshman campaign.

Key Stats for Clarkson Women: The Golden Knights lost a lot of their top swimmers to graduation this past May, but a number of newcomers look to replace those points. Aurelia Leonard had individual wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly against St. Lawrence last weekend, while Madelyn Nowicki owned the top time in the 200 butterfly. Versus Skidmore a year ago, no Clarkson swimmers had multiple individual wins, but Bella Triolet enjoyed a victory in the 200 butterfly and Gabriela McSwieney had the top time in the 400 freestyle.
