Rochester, NY – Freshman Jared Enser finished second in the 50 freestyle and posted two more top five finishes as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team opened the 2021 season with a pair of losses against RIT on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' women fell 218-72 and the Clarkson men dropped its decision by a score of 221-73. Clarkson will be at home for a pair of dual meets next weekend when the team hosts St. Lawrence University on Friday afternoon and then takes on Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon.

Results vs. RIT (10/23/2021)

Facing one of the top teams in the conference and region with three dual meets already under their belts in 2021, the Golden Knights had a tall task in their season-opener but nevertheless performed well. Enser showed why he could be a standout for the Green and Gold for years to come, placing second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.60 seconds. He also came in fourth in the 100 freestyle in 49.06 and fifth in the 100 butterfly in 55.93. Cooper Mattice also was in the top five in both the 100 backstroke (57.63) and 200 backstroke (2:09.93) and Tristan Miranda came in fourth in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:54.97. Jayden Seymour picked up first-place points late in the meet in the 200 individual medley, but actually had the fifth-fastest time.

For the women, Taylor Lee was the top performer with a trio of top-three finishes. She took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.31, though earned first-place points due to RIT swimming the event as an exhibition. She also was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.91) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.09). Bella Triolet was in the top four in both the 200 butterfly (third, 2:28.12) and 100 butterfly (fourth, 2:05.34) and Gabriela McSwieney came in fourth in the two distance freestyle races, finishing the 500 freestyle in 5:52.71 and the 1000 freestyle in 11:51.70. Amelia Kanner also took third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.27.

Clarkson's divers also picked up points down the scoresheet as Thomas Schuyler came in fourth in the 3-meter dive (146.10 points) and fifth in the 1-meter dive (135.40). For the women, Emma Melley was fifth in the 1-meter (91.00).
