Senior Nate Burns of the Clarkson University Baseball team was chosen as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection when the organization sent out its official release late yesterday afternoon.

Burns becomes the first Golden Knights' baseball player to earn the honor since John Coleman in 2015. He is the ninth different Clarkson baseball student-athlete be picked for a CoSIDA honor since 2000. Unlike years past, the awards through CoSIDA this spring were based upon cumulative grade-point average and career athletic accomplishments rather than the cumulative grade-point average and the honors and highlights from a singular season.

Burns became the sixth student-athlete from Clarkson to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, joining fall athletes Maddie Bredehoeft, John Furcick, Kate Isaksen, Danielle Martin, and Ian Roeloffs.

Clarkson's All-Time CoSIDA All-Academic Selections

Burns, who graduated in six semesters last year with a GPA of 3.94, has a 4.00 average in Clarkson's MBA program. Last season, Burns was named a D3Baseball.com New York All-Region Second-Team and ABCA/Rawlings New York All-Region Second-Team selection as well as a Liberty League All-Star. A two-way player, Burns excelled on the mount a year ago, posting a conference best earned run average of 1.69 and ranked among the league leaders in strikeouts with 54. For his career, he finished with a 2.96 earned run average, the fourth-lowest over the past 40 seasons at Clarkson among pitchers wth more than 75 career innings.

In his abbreviated 2020 season, Burns won two games in three appearances, including a complete-game shutout. He struck out 20 over just 13 innings. Over the course of his career, he batted .284 with 73 hits, 13 going for extra bases, and 51 runs scored in 257 at bats.
