Box Score
Kissimmee, FL – Despite falling behind by six runs in the early going, the Clarkson University Baseball team chipped away in the middle innings and ended up on the winning side of a 9-7 decision against Stevenson University on Wednesday morning in Central Florida.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-4 on the season with the win while the Mustangs fell to 8-5. Clarkson closes out its spring trip with games against Ripon College on Thursday and versus Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Friday morning.

The Mustangs scored single runs in both the second and third innings thanks to RBI-singles from Zach DeLong and Mark Terrell, but Stevenson looked like it would run away with the game with a four-run fourth as DeLong delivered an RBI-double, Billy McAdam followed with a two-run triple, and Brady Kessler plated another run with a single, making it 6-0.

Clarkson got a seemingly harmless two-out single from Mike Nee in the bottom of the fourth, but Zachary Carpin doubled to left-center to put the Knights on the board. Pete Ruzzo followed with single to center to get the score to 6-2 and after a Gerard Mouton double pushed Ruzzo to third, he came home on an error to the cut the margin to three runs.

The Knights picked another run in the fifth as Mike Bonk was hit by a pitch, stole second, and then advanced to third and home on balks to pull Clarkson to within 6-4. In the bottom of the sixth, the Knights would take their first lead and never fall behind again. Joe Stockman singled, Nate Burns singled and Mike Tito walked to load the bases, allowing Brad Pearson's groundout to score a run. Tommy Bianchi followed with a two-run triple to put Clarkson up 7-6, and Bianchi scampered home on a passed ball for an 8-6 Clarkson advantage.

Stevenson received a two-out hit by Alex Kidwiler in the top of the seventh, but Clarkson got its two-run margin back when Vincent Granuzzo reached on a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third on a groundout before scoring on a wild pitch. The Mustangs would threaten in the bottom of the ninth by putting runners on second and third with one out. However, Mike Bubniak struck one hitter out before allowing an infield single. With the bases loaded, Bubniak then struck out the final hitter of the game on a called strike to end the contest.

Bubniak earned the win by pitching the final five innings in relief, allowing six hits and a walk with seven whiffs. Clarkson's offense featured 17 different hitters receiving a plate appearance as nine different hitters recorded one hit and nine different players produced a single run.
