CU Men's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Cortland State (3/19)

Receiving a reprieve from the cold, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team is in Florida this week and looks to improve upon its 4-1 start when the Green and Gold take on Cortland State on Tuesday afternoon at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The Series: The Golden Knights have not come away with a win against Cortland since 1994 and trail in the all-time matchup 21-4. Three of the last four meetings, however, were decided by two goals or less.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-1): Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Dyckman has allows six goals or fewer in four of his five appearances this year, earning a .568 save percentage with a 7.11 goals against average and 13 groundballs, a figure that ties him for second on the team behind only faceoff specialist Riley Holzman (20). Clarkson scored 12 times last year against the Red Dragons and the trio of Shane Kilday (5-0-5), Pierce Currie (3-3-6) and Conor Bartlett (2-2-4) did the majority of the damage. Bartlett leads the team with 20 points (12-8-20) this year and is closely followed by Pierce Currie (12-5-17). Both Kilday (10 goals) and Evan Burgett (9 goals) have been leaned upon for goal production in 2019 as well. .

Key Stats for Cortland State (3-2): If Brian Williams wins a faceoff, he generally wins it clean as he has a .589 success rate (56-for-95) with 45 groundballs, including 30 scoops in the last two games in which he has gone 37-5 on draws. Terrence Hagerty leads the team in scoring with 24 points, recording at least four points in all five games this year, while Joey Panariello is second on the team with 21 points (15-6-21), including 17 tallies in the last three contests. That pair combined for seven goals against the Golden Knights last year. Dante Yacavone (9-7-16) and Dean Riley (10-3-13) also contribute considerably to the team's offense. Jon Vargas is one of five goalkeepers to see time this year for the Red Dragons, but he has seen the most time in the crease, logging 186 of a possible 300 minutes. He owns a .618 save percentage and 8.38 goals against average.
