3/12/2019 4:45:00 PM

Clarkson University junior standouts Greg Moro and Nico Sturm have been announced as Top-3 finalists for a pair of prestigious ECAC Hockey Awards.

Moro was named a finalist along with Cornell's Matt Nuttle and Chase Priskie from Quinnipiac for the league's Best Defensive Defenseman.

Sturm is a finalist for the conference's Best Defensive Forward award along with Morgan Barron of Cornell and Cole Maier from Union.

Moro is a leader of a Clarkson defense that allowed just 2.0 goals per-game this season, pacing the way for a 22-10-2 record in 2018-19. The Golden Knights were strong in man-down situations, killing off 85% of penalties during the regular-season. The Edmonton, Alb. native finished the regular season with 34 blocked shots, and a +15 plus/minus rating. Moro also aided in the offensive end, recording nineteen points this season on five goals, four of which came on the power play, and 14 assists.

A Clarkson co-captain, Sturm has been extremely efficient throughout the season. ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Forward last year, Sturm holds the best overall plus/minus rating in the league at +23, including +16 in league play. The Augsburg, Germany native is Clarkson's top center at the faceoff circle, winning 56.7% (325-248) of his draws. He paces the Green and Gold offense with 41 points on 13 goals and 28 assists, while blocking 31 shots. Sturm has tallied at least one point in 30 of the first 34 games, and has posted 11 multiple-point outings.

ECAC Hockey will announced the winners of the two awards on Tuesday, March 19.
