Top 10 Clarkson Highlights - #7 Clarkson Divers Reach NCAA Regionals

Most of the records in the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving record books have been established in the 21st century, though a few have proved more venerable than others as their dates extend back two decades or more. When a mark does fall, the separation between the new mark and the past standard is usually minute.

Sophomore divers Joseph Kozlowski and Brent Reid failed to follow that script during the 2017-18 as the duo jockeyed back and forth for superiority with the Golden Knights, combining to set five marks during the 2017-18 season, surpassing the efforts from Jeff Pagano in February 1997.

To be fair, Clarkson's roster was without many divers in that 20-year stretch, but a few years ago a concerted effort was made to revive that part of program when head coach Mick Maguire added Rachel Atkins to his coaching staff. A few divers have kept the Knights from spotting points in dual meets, but it was not until Reid arrived on campus two seasons ago and Kozlowski joined the squad this year that the Knights began to truly compete in the diving events. The pair did well enough during the Liberty League meet that they moved on to the NCAA Division III Regional hosted at Middlebury College in early March.

The best results of the season for the pair came at the Liberty League meet, with Kozlowski setting new standards in both the 1-meter dive (466.55 points) and in the 3-meter dive (425.00) points. Neither could top those marks at the NCAA Regionals, though both performed well. Kozlowski finished ninth in the 1-meter with 410.70 points and Reid took 16th with 368.65 points. On day two of the event, Kozlowski came in 13th with 390.75 points and Reid placed 18th with 321.40 points. Though the divers have a separate competition for advancement, it was the first time since 2005 that a member of the Golden Knights competed in the NCAAs (Matt Szrama).

With two more years on the roster for each, both Kozlowski and Reid look to join Szrama, Charlie Weisman, Jerry Miller and Anne Donato as the only Clarkson swimmers to participate at the NCAA National Championships.
