CU Softball Preview - at Alfred University (4/2)

Playing its first games above the Mason-Dixon Line in 2018, the Clarkson University Softball team will nevertheless be taking a lengthy trip for a doubleheader on Monday as the Golden Knights head to Western New York to take on Alfred University.

The Series: The Golden Knights split last season's doubleheader against the Alfred, winning the opener 5-1 before dropping the nightcap 10-2. This is the second straight year that Clarkson hits the road to face the Saxons.

Key Stats for Clarkson (3-12-1): After missing the first four games for duties related to ROTC, senior Summer Lancette enjoyed an impressive streak in Florida. In the 12 game stretch during Spring Break, Lancette batted .514/.581/.676, with the former two figures the top rates in the Liberty League so far. She leads the team with 25 total bases and 19 hits. Freshman Hannah Bowen boasts a .333/.414/.490 slash line with a team-best 12 runs and junior Bridget Woolley has taken to the three-spot well with a .313 batting average and 10 runs batted in.

Key Stats for Alfred (10-6): Six hitters for the Saxons are hitting .290 or better, but only one is above .315. Lu Krawczyk is 15-for-30 for a .500/.516/.700 slash line, but it is Shannon Schaefer who is having the best season overall for Alfred. Schaefer is hitting .313/.405/.406, but it is her work in the pitching circle that makes her a valuable two-way player. Schaefer is 6-3 with a 2.27 earned run average through 46.1 innings. She teams with Jessica Wilcox as an impressive duo from the slab, as the pair combines for 92 strikeouts against only 19 walks in 93.1 innings.
