CU Men's Lacrosse Preview - at RIT (3/10)

Usually a little more time has passed before the conference season opens, but the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team opens Liberty League play top-ranked RIT on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, NY.

Live Stats

The Series: Clarkson has picked up just one win against the Tigers since RIT joined the Liberty League back in 2012, but that is not different from many other teams in the conference. In fact, Clarkson's 9-6 victory over the Tigers last year was RIT's first loss in conference play since April 2012. The Tigers ended Clarkson's season for the fourth time in six seasons during the Liberty League playoffs, winning 20-10. Last year's two games saw two odd statistics. RIT's six goals in the first game were the fewest the team had scored since 2009, a stretch of 159 games. The 20 goals allowed by the Golden Knights during the playoffs tied for the most that they had allowed in a game since 1999.

Key Stats for Clarkson (2-0): Sophomore goalkeeper Colin Holt's goals against average went up and save percentage went down after a game against Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, but that was to be expected after an exemplary performance against Brockport when he allowed just a single goal in the season-opener. Holt has a .667 save percentage and 4.77 goals against average after Clarkson's 10-9 double-overtime win against the Cardinals earlier this week. Classmate Conor Bartlett scored four points on two goals and two assists against the Tigers in the 9-6 win last year, but was held scoreless in the playoff game. Junior Shane Kilday produced five points in the two games against RIT, including a three-goal, one-assist effort in the playoffs.

Key Stats for RIT (3-0): The Tigers are ranked first in the country after a strong start in which they have more than doubled up their opponents (44-21). While many players on the team have produced some solid numbers in the early going, senior faceoff specialist Nate Farrell's numbers pop out the most. Farrell is winning 79.5% of his chances at the 'x' and has already picked up 23 groundballs. Senior Aidan Milburn leads the team in scoring with 11 points on six goals and five assists, while Shawn Nally has 10 points on five goals and five assists. Sophomore Walker Hare played all of 21 minutes in the crease for the Tigers last year, but he has emerged as a solid player between the pipes in 2018, recording a 6.00 goals against average with a .700 save percentage.
