CU Men's Lacrosse Preview - at Bard College (4/15)

With only three games left on the conference slate, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team desperately needs to end its losing skid if it wants to qualify for the Liberty League playoffs, and the Golden Knights will look to break out on Saturday when they face Bard College.

The Golden Knights enter the game with a record of 6-4 overall, but are just 1-3 in league games. Bard is a game under .500 at 4-5 overall, but the Raptors are 0-3 in conference play. In the brief history of the series, Clarkson has handled Bard on three occasions, outscoring the Raptors 37-17 in that span.

Clarkson's offense has sputtered since the start of the Liberty League season as defenses have clamped down on the Golden Knights following their fast start. Clarkson was averaging 12.17 goals per game in its six non-league games, but since the conference began the Knights have produced just 6.75 goals per game in four contests. Senior Ryan DaRin leads the team with 33 points on 30 goals and three assists while classmate Ryan St. Croix is second with 25 points on 18 goals and seven assists. Freshman Conor Bartlett leads the team with 12 assists and has added in 11 goals for 23 points. Seniors Kyle Brown and Scott Dosser have combined for 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. Goalkeeper Nick Strandholm has done his best to keep games close with an 8.81 goals against average and a .568 save percentage, while the defense has leaned on senior Justin Gibson's 13 caused turnovers. Ryan Gabriel (29 groundballs), Mark Uhlig (27 groundballs) and Marc Simmons (24 groundballs) have been the busiest in the midfield for the Knights.

The Raptors won four of their six non-league games, but the team has struggled since conference play began, having been outscored 47-10 by Rensselaer, Skidmore and St. Lawrence. Corey Rich headlines the team's offense with 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists, while Emmet O'Connell is the team's top goal scoring threat with 16 snipes and 21 total points. John Palermo (14-3-17) and George Goceljak (6-11-17) also are strong contributors to the Bard offense. Will Hughes (24 groundballs, 17 caused turnovers) and William Bafuto (15 groundballs, 16 caused turnovers) are the team's top ball hawks, while Sam Smith (30 groundballs) and Blake Burney (24 groundballs) are strongest when the ball is on the ground. Lyle Heaney has taken over as the team's starting goalkeeper, and has posted a .566 save percentage with an 11.50 goals against average.
