For the second consecutive year, the Clarkson University Baseball team will open the Liberty League Conference Tournament with a game against the Rochester Yellowjackets. The two teams will meet at 12:00 noon on Thursday at host RPI.

Clarkson comes into the game with a 23-7 overall record and is 16-6 in Liberty League games, which places them second in the conference while Rochester is 26-14 overall and has a 17-7 Liberty League record, which makes them the third seed. The other two teams in the tournament are RPI who is 22-14 overall and 18-6 in conference making them the top seed and tournament host, and RIT who is 21-12 overall and 14-7 in conference games. Clarkson will be looking to win their third conference tournament and first since 2011 while RPI will be trying to win their record 12th conference championship and second in three years. Rochester and RIT will both be looking to win the conference tournament for the first time.

Clarkson is the number one Liberty League team in both pitching and fielding. The Golden Knights have a league-low 3.44 ERA and opponents are hitting just .260 against them. They are the only team to give up less than 100 earned runs. Their .973 fielding percentage is also the best in the league and have 17 less errors than the second lowest total. Clarkson is tied with RPI for third in the Liberty League in hitting, with a batting average of .302. Clarkson is also third in on-base percentage at .392 and fourth in slugging percentage at .395.

Senior John Coleman is near the top of many Liberty League offensive categories. He is third in the league in batting average (.433), fourth in slugging percentage (.596), third in on-base percentage (.528), and fifth in runs scored (33). Junior Greg Jasek has also had a strong year at the plate, with a team-high 11 doubles and 28 RBI's. Senior Matt Jenack leads Clarkson in walks and is sixth in the Liberty League with 22.

Clarkson's pitching has been led by freshman Will Coleman. He has an ERA of 3.05 and leads the team in both wins (4) and saves (4), as well as innings pitched at 38.1. He has earned the Liberty League Rookie of the Week five different times this season. Sophomore Ted Wilson and junior Joe Rooney are the other two pitchers that have thrown at least 30 innings this spring. Wilson has a 3.67 ERA and owns a 2-1 record to go with two saves while Rooney's ERA is 3.90 and he has a 3-1 record. Junior Ian Castle and sophomore Jeremy Barber have also made four and five starts respectively. Castle has a 3.81 ERA and a 2-1 record while Barber has a 4.50 ERA and is 2-2.

Of the remaining playoff teams, Rochester is the team that Clarkson has the best record against. The Golden Knights took three out of four games at Rochester earlier this season. Clarkson split four games against RPI as well as splitting a doubleheader with RIT, with all six of those games being played in Potsdam.

Rochester is just sixth in the Liberty League in batting average at .295, but they are first in slugging percentage at .447. Their 27 home runs are 10 more than the next highest total. Brendan Garry leads the league with nine home runs, while Jake Meyerson, Nolan Schultz, and Brian Munoz are all in the top ten for slugging percentage. Garry and Schultz are fifth and sixth respectively in RBI's. On the mound, Evan Janifer and Josh Schulman are both in the top ten in ERA in the Liberty League. Janifer pitched seven strong innings and did not allow an earned run in the sole game Rochester beat Clarkson.

RPI took three out of four games from RIT to earn the top seed in the conference tournament.  They have been the best hitting team during conference play with a .326 batting average in conference games. Tim LeSuer and Jared Jensen both make it on the top ten in batting average for the Liberty League and Jensen leads the league in slugging percentage. On the mound, Sean Conroy, Greg Echeverria, and Jensen are all in the top ten for ERA. Conroy leads the league in innings pitched with Echeverria in third. The pair are also first and second in strikeouts and all three pitchers have five victories.

RIT leads the Liberty League in overall batting average at .310 as well as in on-base percentage at .414. They are second in the league in ERA, with their 3.47 ERA trailing only Clarkson's 3.44. Will Gorman is third in the league with a slugging percentage of .620 and hit a grand slam home run in the Tigers victory at Clarkson. Gorman leads the league with 38 RBI's with his teammate Skip Flanagan right behind him with 37 runs knocked in. Rory Little has been the best pitcher for RIT with an ERA of 1.96 and an opposing batting average of .208. Ethan Humbert also joins Little in the Liberty League top ten ERAs at 2.83.
