Cortland, NY - Brian Krol recorded four goals and two assists and sophomore Mike Tota scored four goals as fourth-ranked Cortland State opened up a 12-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team 18-2 Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.
The Golden Knights fell to 0-5 overall and face RIT in Rochester next Wednesday. Cortland improved to 3-2 on the season.
Clarkson sophomore Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA) scored his seventh goal of the season for the Knights, and freshman Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) also scored for the Golden Knights. Freshman Kyle Kasprzyk (Orchard Park, NY) picked up an assist. Freshman Kyle Hohmann (Rochester, NY) was the first of four goalies to see action for Clarkson, stopping four shots in the first quarter. Freshman Pat Briggs (Baldwinsville, NY) made three saves in the second quarter, sophomore Pat Sweeney (Canton, NY) registered two saves in the third quarter and freshman Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) turned aside three shots in the final 15 minutes.
The Red Dragons won 14-of-23 faceoffs in the game, out shot the Golden Knights, 44-15, and held a convincing 43-19 advantage in ground balls.
