Reigelsperger Seventh, Simon Strong in Return for Knights at Hoffmann Invite

Canton, NY – Senior Drew Reigelsperger of the Clarkson University Cross Country team was the top NCAA Division III runner at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational on Saturday, finishing seventh overall to headline the Golden Knights' performance this weekend.

Clarkson's men placed fourth out of eight teams with 96 points, though two of the teams were from Canada, including first-places Queens (15) and third-place Ottawa Lions (88) with St. Lawrence taking second (64) and Plattsburgh State (137), Norwich (162), Pau Smith's (214), and SUNY Canton (247) trailing the Golden Knights. On the women's side, Clarkson was fourth of five teams, behind Queens (15), St. Lawrence (50) and Plattsburgh State (79) and ahead of SUNY Canton (151).

The top runners in the field were the Canadians that came across the border to compete, but Reigelsperger was the top American runner in the field of 121, placing seventh with a career-best 8000-meter time of 26:03.5, topping his times from a year ago by just a few seconds. James Lynch was the next runner for the Knights, placing 23rd in 27:15.6. The next three runners for Clarkson were separated by less than 30 seconds to close out the team scoring as Jack Zieber came in 34th in 27:48.3 and Frank Consolazio was 42nd in 28:04.9. Matthew Clarner hurried across the finish line for 44th in 28:15.6. Charles O'Brien placed 50th (28:28.4) and Wyatt Worcester was 54th (28:36.3) as Clarkson's alternate scorers.

The women's side was roughly half that of the men's race with 65 total runners and Alexandra Simon placed 37th in the field in 26:18.1 in her first competitive collegiate race in nearly two years. Skylar Francis was three spots later roughly 20 seconds behind at 26:37.9 and Meagan Speizer placed 41st just three seconds after in 26:40.5. Janneke Baks claimed the 42nd spot in 28:04.3, and then Kelly Lahiff rounded out the team score by taking 47th in 28:04.3. Madeline Bresnan took 51st (30:47.2) and Olivia Stalker came in 56th (31:28.6) as the alternates.
